Stanley J. Rogers, M.D., Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Director of Bariatric Surgery Programat University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) has been invited to join the International Editorial Board of Siriraj Medical Journal, a prestigious journal which has been in existence for over six decades. Two (2) Department of Surgery research teams were awarded seed funding totaling $40,000 to accelerate their medical device innovations. The Roboimplant device, an expandable rod for orthopaedic surgery applications, took top honors, with the Sentinel Bandage, a non-invasive technology for wound monitoring, taking second place. The December 2013 issue of San Francisco Medicine, the Journal of the San Francisco Medical Society, reportes on the pioneering work of Matthew Y.C. Lin, M.D. and Stanley J. Rogers, M.D., who are among those pioneering an incisionless endoscopic procedure called endoluminal suturing for patients who either have either: 1) gained weight 2) or failed to lose sufficient weight following bariatric surgery. Stanley J. Rogers, M.D., an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at UCSF, has been named Surgical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program and Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery in the Division of General Surgery. Dr. Rogers received his M.D. from the University of Utah School of Medicine and did his post-doctoral surgical training at UCSF including his residency, and a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery, surgical sonography and GI endoscopy.

UCSF News reports on the "TOGA" study led by Stanley Rogers, MD, FACS, Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery and Co-Director of the UCSF Bariatric Surgery Center, and John Cello, MD, Professor of Medicine and Surgery, and Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery Center.  The investigational procedure, transoral gastroplasty, or "TOGA" for short, is being tested in a clinical trial.
